A New Chapter in Statistics Poland's International Development Cooperation: Wrap-Up of the Twinning Project in Cambodia
How can we better measure economic activity and provide the data needed to inform public policy? These questions guided 30 months of cooperation between experts from Statistics Poland and their Cambodian counterparts. Funded by the European Union and implemented jointly with institutions from Italy, France and Lithuania, the project is now drawing to a close. It is Poland’s first such initiative in the region.
The project aimed to strengthen the capacity of Cambodia’s National Institute of Statistics and improve the quality of the statistics it produces, with a particular focus on national accounts. It used a twinning approach, bringing public institutions together to share knowledge and expertise.
Experts from Statistics Poland provided trainings mainly in descriptive statistics, statistical inference, infographic design, data visualisation and the use of Excel. Experts from the National Institute of Statistics also completed internship at Statistics Poland premises.
As the project draws to a close, the experience gained and partnerships established lay the groundwork for continued cooperation. The partners remain committed to strengthening official statistics to provide reliable data for public policy. The results of their work are highlighted in a video summarising the project.
