From Satellite Imagery to Food Security. Statistics Poland hosts the jubilee ICAS X conference in Krakow
This July, Krakow became the global capital of agricultural statistics as more than 300 experts, researchers, and analysts gathered for the 10th International Conference on Agricultural Statistics (ICAS X).
The conference highlighted a major leap forward in the field. Today, agricultural analytics goes far beyond counting livestock and mapping crop acreage. It relies heavily on advanced remote sensing, satellite imagery, and digital modelling - indispensable tools for combating hunger and responding rapidly to climate shocks.
As a leading global forum, ICAS fosters data-driven solutions to key challenges surrounding food security and sustainable rural development. Statistics Poland hosted the anniversary event in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the World Bank Group, and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), under the auspices of the International Statistical Institute (ISI).
Centered on the theme "Innovative Approaches to Data: Shaping Resilient and Sustainable Agrifood Systems in a Digital Era," the event served as a bridge between policymakers, scholars, and industry leaders. Discussions focused on turning digital technology into real-world impact: optimizing food supply chains, conserving natural resources, and building climate resilience for farmers facing extreme weather.
Hosting this 10th anniversary event cements Poland’s position as a trusted partner and leader in official statistics and an active contributor to the global community.
