Current trends in international statistical cooperation
Official statistics are facing significant pressures. Growing demand for reliable, timely and comparable data is reshaping how statistical offices operate, the methods they apply, and the role they play in national information systems. These pressures come alongside rapid technological change, the emergence of new data sources, and the need for strong ethical safeguards and responsible use of information in the public domain.
International cooperation has become essential for an effective statistical system. Issues that cross national borders — climate change, migration, pandemics or the social impact of digitalisation — require common standards, coherent systems and harmonised methods. Without a broader international context, official statistics lose both their usefulness and public trust.
Statistics Poland helps shape international strategies, standards and initiatives as part of the European Statistical System and through active participation in OECD and UNECE working groups and task forces. These activities define the strategic direction of official statistics. Cooperation with Eurostat, the United Nations, the OECD, the European Central Bank, regional statistical organisations and partner countries makes it possible to combine expertise, strengthen capacities and build a modern statistical system — a public good that serves society.
