Monitoring the 2030 Agenda

Monitoring the 2030 Agenda

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted in 2015 by all UN Member States, sets out 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a global plan of action for people, the planet and prosperity. High-quality statistical data are essential for tracking progress and identifying areas that require intervention. The Agenda highlights the central role of national statistical offices in implementing the goals and providing data for roughly 240 global SDG indicators.

Statistics Poland is an active participant in international work on developing SDG monitoring frameworks and represents Eastern Europe in the Inter-Agency and Expert Group on SDG Indicators (IAEG-SDGs). GUS also contributes to the IAEG-SDGs task team responsible for evaluating the global monitoring process and preparing recommendations for the post-2030 monitoring framework. Between 2021 and 2025, Poland represented Eastern Europe in the High-Level Group for Partnership, Coordination and Capacity-Building for Statistics for the 2030 Agenda (HLG-PCCB), which provides strategic leadership for SDG monitoring and reporting.

GUS is also a permanent and active member of the UNECE Steering Group on SDG Statistics, established to support statistical institutions across the region. From 2018 until mid-2025, Poland served as its co-chair. Statistics Poland co-authored two editions of the regional road map for SDG statistics (‘Road Map on Statistics for Sustainable Development Goals’), which help countries organise their SDG monitoring systems, as well as the review of national experiences after ten years of implementing the 2030 Agenda (‘Halfway to 2030 – lessons learned from providing statistics for SDGs’).
