Data Ethics
The growth of digital technologies and access to new sources of information — such as geolocation data, social media data or data generated by smart devices — significantly increases the potential of statistics as a source of advanced analytical insight. At the same time, it raises important ethical considerations. Responsible data use, transparency of analytical processes and strong privacy safeguards are now fundamental to maintaining public trust in statistical institutions.
International organisations such as the United Nations, Eurostat and the OECD develop ethical standards — for example Eurostat’s guidelines on algorithm-based analyses or UN recommendations on responsible data governance. Statistics Poland applies these principles in its own operations and in international cooperation projects. Examples include guidelines for the use of alternative data sources and ethical frameworks for analyses based on machine learning.
